Lyn Sharratt’s background includes cumulative experience as teacher, curriculum consultant, teacher-trainer, public education policy analyst, superintendent of schools, and superintendent of curriculum and instruction – the latter two roles in a district comprised of 197 schools, 8,800 teachers, and 117,000 students. Currently, Lyn is an Associate at Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at University of Toronto (OISE/UT), where she coordinates the Ed.D. cohort in Theory and Policy Studies.

All this only begins to tell the story of her experience, accomplishments, and commitment to two parallel goals: increasing student achievement for all students, and, improving teachers’ assessment and instruction practices in the classroom. It is remarkable how often leaders forget that to improve student learning, they need to ensure their teachers too have a positive environment in which they can continue to learn professionally in order to enjoy their careers and to feel the real satisfaction they should feel from making a difference for all their students.

Lyn shares her experience and knowledge regarding about whole system reform, school improvement and classroom practice. As lead author, she has written and published 2 books with Michael Fullan (the first book “Realization: The Change Imperative for Deepening District-Wide Reform”, Corwin 2009, and the second book,”Putting FACES on the Data: What Great Leaders Do!” which will be available from Corwin in February 2012). Lyn has written and published several academic papers with Fullan and many other colleagues, presented papers at international conferences, delivered keynote speeches and made presentations at district- and state-level conferences, and consulted on whole system reform and increasing student achievement across Canada, in The United States of America, Australia, Chile and England.

In every case Lyn has generated considerable professional interest because everything she does has been based on real successes – measurable, unquestionable and replicatable success – in real schools, with real teachers, real political situations, and teacher unions.

Lyn is quick to recognize and adopt sustainable practices ideas that offer lasting system value. Key global educators such as Sir Michael Barber, Sir Ken Robinson, Professor Brent Davies, Sir John Jones, Dr. Michael Fullan, Dr. Ken Leithwood, Dr. Avis Glaze, Tony McKay, Dr. Peter Hill and Dr. Lorna Earl have endorsed Lyn’s work and have themselves influenced her thinking. Leading professionals such as Dr. Jim Watterston, Jayne Johnston, David Shepherd, Jan McClure, Dr. Tony Bracken and others have noted how Lyn’s work makes a difference.
